Garage door cones and cables - These are steel wires attached to plastic cones or roller drums on the either end of the torsion spring on a canopy garage door. They use the energy stored in the torsion spring and convert this energy into a controlled turning force. This force then helps you to lift up your canopy garage door. The design has been in use for the last 20+ years and is still the preferred mechanism used by garage door manufacturers today. We recommend you do not attempt to change these unless you know what you are doing as the torsion spring under tension can be quite dangerous. If you are a confident at DIY then it should not take you more than 2 or 3 hours. You will need the following tools: Snips, 4mm pin-punch, hammer, 2 pairs of mole-grips, a screw-driver and some WD40.
