Keeping Cool in Summer

Large expanses of glass are now common in all buildings from homes to offices and schools to shops as they allow the rooms to be filled with natural light and keep a connection with the outside world. However, glass is often the single biggest source of solar heat gain in a building. This heat gain has a positive effect in winter as it helps to reduce the amount of fuel required to heat a building, however in summer it can cause a building's temperature to soar, requiring the use of air-conditioning systems etc, which are high energy consumers.

The sun's energy enters the atmosphere as short wave energy which passes easily through glass. When this energy is then absorbed by furniture and the floor in a building, the waves are radiated back in the form of long waves or infra red heat rays. These heat rays are unable to penetrate the glass and so the room begins to heat up quickly.

One of the best ways to prevent this from happening is to stop the short wave energy entering the the glass. This is done using any of our various external shading products such as Awnings, Screens and Parasols.

The CE marking is a declaration that our solar shading solutions, where applicable, meet all the appropriate provisions of the relevant legislation implementing certain European Directives (EN13561). The are a form of safety tests which should give you complete peace of mind and re-assurance that the product you are purchasing is of the highest quality.

There is only one mandatory section within the directive - Wind Resistance (section 4), however our solar shading solutions have been tested in all 15 relevant sections.

Our systems are tested for Class 2 wind speeds up to 24mph and Class 3 wind speeds up to 30mph or a strong breeze.

Having an awning fitted takes less than a day but you will have years of use from the awning giving not only fantastic value for money but as a bonus, if you get fed up with your awning fabric colour in a couple of years then we can change it from only £129.00!
